My target is to update this ESXi server to ESXi 6.7 Express Patch 5 (build 10764712). This shows me the current version, which in my case is ESXi 6.5.0 build 6765664 (ESXi 6.5 U1 Express Patch 4). To find the current version of ESXi, after I connected with PuTTY to the server, I ran this command: Upgrade ESXi from 6.5 to 6.7 with Command Line – Check ESXi Version This method works either the ESXi server is standalone or added to a vCenter Server (I will use no component of vCenter Server).Īs a prerequisite, I placed the ESXi 6.5 server in maintenance mode. It’s 6.7 time now, so here is the article explaining how to upgrade ESXi from 6.5 to 6.7 with the command line (esxcli). If everything is completed properly, you should see 6.7 version listed in the About Screen. In a previous post I wrote about how to update ESXi 6.5 using Command Line. Then Exit the Server from Maintenance Mode to Start your VMs and also disable SSH. NOTE: If you get an error that there is “No Space Left on Device”, go to Manage > System Tab > Swap and add the following settings.Īfter the install completes, reboot the server with the command – reboot We put –no-sig-check at the end to avoid any integrity checks (Error: Could not find Trusted Signer). esxcli software profile update -d -p ESXi-6.7.0-20201004001-standard -no-sig-check.Once decided go ahead and run the command to install (our version is 20201004001 as of this date’s post) Look through the list and see which update you want to download. The following will give us a list of 6.7 update packages – esxcli software sources profile list -d | grep ESXi-6.7.Now we are ready to look for our online ESX update package. for opening the Firewall – esxcli network firewall ruleset set -e true -r httpClient.for DNS enter the following – esxcli network ip dns server add –-server=8.8.8.8.Now open Putty or your preferred SSH Client and connect to your ESX Server and login.īefore we start the upgrade we want to make sure we have a DNS Server configured and also the Firewall is opened for HTTP Requests This is required before we can upgrade the Server. NOTE: We can also Enter Maintenance Mode while we are here. To be able to SSH into the ESX Server, we need to make sure that SSH is enabled under Host > Actions > Services > Enable Secure Shell (SSH). You can do an Internet Search to download and install it or use your preferred SSH client. For this article we will be using Putty for the SSH client.
